Stan Brakage's latest film, "Microgarden"
will make its premiere at Cinema Jou Jou on June 2nd.
"Microgarden" is a step-printed film made
in collaboration with Mary Beth Reed at the University
of Colorado at Boulder. "The film suggests a garden
if you could travel through it microscopically,"
said Brakhage in an interview with the author. "It
also suggests the life cycle of plant life." The
film will be making its debut at a fundraiser for the
Telluride International Experimental Cinema Exposition.
This will also be the last film printed by Brakhage;
"I won't print anymore films until I can ensure
a positive future for my family." After a long
battle with the regents at CU Boulder, Brakhage will
be retiring from his position as Distinguished Professor.
His retirement will come in one year, at which time
Brakhage and his family will leave the United States
to live in Victoria Canada. Stan Brakhage is one of
this country's greatest living visual artists. He has
made hundreds of films in fifty years of filmmaking,
is a pioneer in avant-garde film, and has lectured at
colleges and universities across the world, inspiring
thousands to pick up a camera.
TIE wishes the Brakhage family the best in Canada and
is honored to have Stan and Marilyn Brakhage present
June 2nd to present "Microgarden" for Cinema
Jou Jou.
